My Daily Matcha Routine for a Healthier Gut and Calm Energy (Coffee Alternative That Works)

Do you ever feel bloated, tired, or jittery after coffee?
I used to feel the same way, and at first, I didn’t really think much of it. I just assumed it was normal—that little rush, the slight crash, the uneasy feeling in my stomach. But over time, I started paying more attention to how my body was actually responding, especially when I became more mindful of my gut health and hormones.

I noticed that instead of feeling energised, I often felt wired but tired. My digestion didn’t feel quite right, and there were days when I just felt off—like my body was trying to tell me something.

That’s when I realised I needed to make a change.

Instead of forcing myself to keep drinking coffee, I started looking for something that would support my body rather than stress it. Something gentler, more balanced, and still enjoyable as part of my daily routine.

That’s when I slowly moved away from coffee and started trying something different… matcha.

Why I Stopped Drinking Coffee

Coffee used to be part of my daily routine—I relied on it to get me going in the morning and to push through busy days.

But for me, coffee is more than just a drink.

It reminds me of my childhood in the Philippines. We had coffee trees in our backyard, and I remember how we would grind our own coffee at home. It was something special—simple, familiar, and comforting. My grandpa loved his coffee so much, he would drink it even during the hot summer days. Those memories stayed with me, which is probably why coffee has always felt close to my heart.

But over time, I started noticing small changes in how I felt.

Instead of feeling truly energised, I often felt jittery and unsettled. My stomach didn’t feel quite right, and there were moments when I felt bloated or uncomfortable without really understanding why. Then, not long after, I would experience that familiar energy crash, leaving me feeling even more tired than before.

At first, I ignored it. I thought maybe it was just part of getting older or having a busy lifestyle. But as I became more mindful of my gut health and hormones, I realised my body was actually trying to tell me something.

That’s when I started asking myself a simple question:

What if my daily coffee wasn’t supporting my body the way I thought it was?

I knew I didn’t want to give up that comforting daily ritual—but I wanted something that could support my energy in a calmer, more balanced way, without putting extra stress on my body.

My Daily Matcha Routine

This is how I usually prepare my matcha—it’s become a simple, calming part of my day that I genuinely look forward to.

  • I start with a small amount of warm (not boiling) water
  • Then I whisk it until smooth and slightly frothy
  • After that, I add warm milk or a dairy-free alternative
  • And if I feel like it, I’ll add a little honey for a touch of sweetness

That’s it—nothing complicated, just a gentle and nourishing routine.

I usually enjoy this in the morning to start my day, or in the afternoon before the gym when I want a boost without feeling overstimulated.

What I really love about it is how the energy feels—calm, steady, and clean. There’s no sudden spike, no crash… just a more balanced kind of energy that supports how I want to feel throughout the day.

Why It Feels Better for My Gut

What really surprised me was how much gentler matcha feels compared to coffee.

After making the switch, I started noticing small but meaningful changes in how my body responded throughout the day. It wasn’t anything dramatic at first—but it felt different in a good way.

For me, it meant:

  • No bloated or uncomfortable feeling after drinking it
  • No sudden spikes and crashes in energy
  • Just a smoother, more balanced sense of energy that lasted longer

It simply felt easier on my system, especially as I became more mindful of supporting my gut health, energy levels, and hormones—especially during this stage of life.

I also like that matcha is naturally rich in antioxidants, which makes it a nice addition to my daily routine when I’m focusing on overall wellness.

I’ll be sharing more about how matcha may support gut health, energy, and hormonal balance in my upcoming blog posts, so feel free to check back or follow along if you’re interested in learning more.

A Simple Shift That Made a Difference

Switching from coffee to matcha was a small change—but over time, it made a noticeable difference in how I feel throughout the day.

I still cherish that quiet moment in the morning or afternoon—it just looks a little different now. Instead of feeling wired or crashing later, I feel more calm, steady, and supported, which is something I didn’t realise I needed until I experienced it.

It’s not about giving something up—it’s about finding what works better for your body.

If you’ve been feeling the same way I used to—bloated, jittery, or just not quite right after coffee—this could be a gentle alternative worth exploring.
